As sustainability becomes an increasingly important priority across global supply chains, ports are expected to do more than facilitate cargo movement. Today, they play a critical role in driving environmental stewardship, operational excellence, digital innovation, and responsible governance. At Gemalink International Port, these principles are integrated into the company’s vision of becoming a modern, future-ready gateway connecting Vietnam with the world.

Since commencing operations in 2021, Gemalink has rapidly established itself as one of Vietnam’s leading deep-sea container terminals. Strategically located within the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster, Gemalink currently operates with a capacity of 1.7 million TEUs per year and serves as an important gateway connecting Vietnam with major markets across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Through its ongoing expansion strategy, Gemalink is steadily advancing toward a future capacity of 3 million TEUs annually. Alongside operational growth, Gemalink remains committed to building a business that creates long-term value for customers, employees, communities, and the environment.

A key pillar of this journey is digital transformation. Recognizing the increasing demand for efficiency, transparency, and reliability, Gemalink has invested in a range of digital solutions designed to optimize terminal operations and enhance customer experience. Digital platforms such as SmartPort, SmartGate, RiverGate, and other online solutions enable customers to access information more efficiently while improving operational visibility across the logistics chain. These innovations not only enhance productivity but also contribute to resource optimization and more sustainable operations.

Environmental responsibility remains at the core of Gemalink’s development strategy. Gemalink has implemented an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001:2015 and completed an independently verified greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with ISO 14064-1 standards. In recognition of its sustainability efforts, Gemalink has also achieved Vietnam’s Green Port Criteria, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible port operations.

To further reduce its environmental footprint, Gemalink has invested in 24 electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (e-RTG) cranes and continues to deploy energy-efficient technologies throughout its operations. The company is also developing a solar energy project with a planned capacity of 1,146 kWp, covering approximately 4,916 square metres. Once operational, the system is expected to reduce more than 1,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually while supporting cleaner and more sustainable port operations. In parallel, Gemalink is developing dedicated charging infrastructure to support the operation of Vietnam’s first electric container barge, contributing to the creation of a greener logistics ecosystem.

Looking ahead, Gemalink’s Phase 2 expansion project marks a major milestone in the terminal’s long-term development strategy. Officially launched in April 2026, the project represents an investment of approximately VND 13.8 trillion and covers a total area of 54.45 hectares. Upon completion, Gemalink’s total capacity is expected to reach 3 million TEUs per year, enabling the terminal to accommodate some of the world’s largest container vessels of up to 250,000 DWT. Phase 2 will incorporate additional electric RTGs, energy-efficient equipment, and advanced operational technologies, further strengthening Gemalink’s position as one of the region’s most modern, efficient, and sustainable deep-sea container terminals.

Beyond environmental performance, Gemalink places strong emphasis on people and workplace well-being. The terminal maintains an Occupational Health and Safety Management System certified to ISO 45001:2018 and continuously invests in initiatives that promote a safe, healthy, and inclusive working environment. Through employee engagement programs, professional development opportunities, and wellness initiatives, Gemalink fosters a workplace culture where people are empowered to grow, contribute, and succeed together.

Governance is equally important in Gemalink’s sustainability strategy. The company is committed to maintaining transparent corporate governance practices, complying with applicable laws and international standards, strengthening risk management processes, and enhancing accountability across all levels of the organization. Through responsible governance and ethical business practices, Gemalink seeks to ensure long-term resilience while building trust with customers, partners, employees, shareholders, and the wider community.

Operational excellence remains at the heart of Gemalink’s success. Supported by an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, Gemalink continuously strives to enhance service quality, improve operational efficiency, and deliver reliable solutions for customers and shipping lines. By combining advanced infrastructure, modern technologies, and a highly skilled workforce, Gemalink has become one of the most important deep-sea gateways in Vietnam.

Looking ahead, Gemalink remains committed to advancing its sustainability journey through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By integrating smart technologies, environmental responsibility, strong governance, and people-focused development into every aspect of its operations, the company continues to strengthen its position as a smart, green, and sustainable port for the future.

Driven by innovation, sustainability, and connectivity, Gemalink is proud to contribute to the development of a more resilient and sustainable maritime industry while connecting Vietnam to global opportunities.
